Jon Beast

Sadly Jon ‘Fat’ Beast is no longer with us. Jon did his own fanzine ‘Beast’ and also promoted many nights with hundreds of bands, Alternative TV, Blyth Power, My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3, The Membranes and Chumbawumba amongst other notibles. Jon promoted firstly at the Red Rose club (the Labour club) in Finsbury Park as well as the Crown And Castle in Dalston. He also promoted gigs in Hammersmith, the afternoon free gigs at the old Three Crowns pub in Church Street Stoke Newington. His third, longest running and most infamous promotions were based at the Bull And Gate pub in Kentish Town where the nights he promoted were entitled the ‘Timebox’. He also did some turns as a ranting poet. He’s best remembered as an all round good bloke for his rambunctious openings to Carter USM gigs.
RIP Jon Fat Beast.

Here’s the lad in Wake Up ‘zine, No. 5 from February 1985
