Young writers Laurie Bolger, Sarah Fletcher, Ashna Sarkar, Emily Harrison and Chimene Suleyman spent the morning with our partners Digital Drama learning how to do interviews.
They did some research, prepared some questions and also the technology side of things too.
There were original ‘zines, flyers and books on hand to help with their research.
Later in the day they practised what they’d learnt by interviewing historian Professor Matthew Worley.
Matthew will be chairing a discussion on Ranting at the British Library on May 15th: details here
Over the next few months the young writers will be conducting interviews with people involved in Ranting poetry in the early 80s, such as Porky the Poet, the Big J, Chip Grim and more. There interviews will then be on a website, as well as being on this blog.
Our thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, whose grant allowed us to work with and train some excellent young writers develop some new skills and to help illuminate a shady part of British poetry history.
