Somewhere In Hackney

A 1980 film catching Hackney as it was.
From 27.25 there’s footage in Centreprise bookshop and cafe that was on Kingsland Road.
There’s footage of the poetry group there that includes Hugh Boatswain reading.
Cheers to our comrades at The Radical History of Hackney for the steer.
You can watch the film here.

This is a wonderful film that shows not only how much has changed but the extent to which Thatcherite, neoliberalsm has devastated creativity in the borough leaving it chiefly the preserve of the rich few.
