Kurtis Blow

From Sounds, August 15th, 1981.

For me hip hop died when rappers stopped wearing shoulder pads but Kurtis Blow was great. Rap did have some influence on some ranting poets, Attila recorded some pop raps and Cool Notes quickly joined the dots from Northern Soul to rap and saw the social commentary in the likes of The Message as akin to ranting verse. Whether it was The Jam, Ranking Toyan or Grandmaster Flash, we were close to the edge. The interview illustrates links to punks like Blondie and the Clash.
