A Song From Under The Floorboards

The Minority Press Group’s second publication, from 1980, is a look at the news trade and the radical press called Where Is The Other News?
It’s a fascinating read and looks at the difficulties, particularly with distribution in publishing alternative magazines and newspapers, getting them distributed, as well as selling them. This was long before the internet.
As an appendix at the back the biggest selling magazines of July-December 1979 are listed, along with their readership. For all it’s opinion making, the NME is easily outsold by Shoot!.
There’s blurb from Tony Benn on the back of the booklet that reads: “An important piece of research revealing serious limitations on the freedom of the press which one day must be corrected.” We’re still waiting.
