Ashes Of Eden

Poem from Weird Tales, Vol 22 No, 2, August, 1933.

Ashes of Eden

See, pale wraiths! A pledge to you,
This lifted cup of bitter brew.
Aye! Dead, once-dear Loves of mine,
I pledge these lees of Life’s sour wine.

Ah! You whisper. . . . Say you so?
Little of bitter dregs you know!
Dead things reek no more of pain –
Mayhap the Dust is Life’s true gain.
